Amazoy Meyer Zoysia is a low maintenance, warm weather grass that requires little care after it is established. Zoysia loves the heat of the summer and then goes into dormancy as winter comes. Here are a few tips to help keep your Zoysia lawn the greenest and healthiest lawn on the block:
- Supplemental watering may be necessary in extreme conditions. If your ground is dry and cracked or the leaf of the plant is yellow- brown and withering it is time to give it some water.
- Annually test your soil to determine the pH level. Typically it’s done in the Spring and the ideal pH is between 6 or 7. If below 6 add lime and if above 7 add sulfur.
- Apply fertilizers sparingly, remember less is more. The best time to fertilize is in the Spring.
- Aerate your lawn. This is the single best thing most people don’t do for their lawn. Anytime is good, Spring is best.
- Keep your grass mowed to around 1 ½” to 3”. Never mow more than 1/3 of the leaf off at a time.
- Maintain your tools and be sure to keep the blade of your mower sharp.
- Kill broadleaf weeds with Zoysia safe herbicide as needed. Getting after them when they first appear is always best for your lawn.
- Most zoysia lawns do not require dethatching. If you determine dethatching is necessary, it is advisable to do so in the spring to improve the passage of air, water and nutrients through the turf.
A well-kept Zoysia lawn is a goal that is easily achieved with minimal work. We are always available to help you make good decisions about your Zoysia lawn.
